I believe harry potter and the sorcerer’s stone by J.K. Rowling’s is a tragedy. At the beginning of the story harry is living with his Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon. Harry spends all his time at home and never gets to do anything fun or go or have friends over. He is mistreated just because his aunt and uncle know he is different. Harry is a wizard but he does not know this yet. Because of the symbolism, and plotline Harry Potter and the sorcerer’s stone by J.K Rowling followed the tragic mode of literature.
This book had much resemblance to showing how it is a tragedy. Like at the beginning of the book, Harry Potter is a very nice, well behaved boy but is treated terribly. Harry is lied to by his aunt and uncle, made fun of by his cousin Dudley, and has never even had a birthday present! This is resemblance to the main character is in a conflict. Before all this had even happened, Harry’s parents had been killed and Harry had survived somehow, with only having a scar on his forehead in the shape of a lightning bolt. This resembles a tragic flaw in the story. The death or death symbolism is at the end of the book when harry kills Voldemort by finding out that if he touches him he burns to ashes and dies. This is in resemblance to death because Voldemort is dead because Harry had killed him, well kind of. Lord Voldemort doesn’t really die he is in the body of a young professor who works at Hogwarts, Even though Lord Voldemorts spirit still exists.
Although the plotline of the mode of literature is important, the characteristics are just as important. Harry Potter is in control. He doesn’t let things get to his head and he doesn’t freak out about things. He’s very calm and keeps his sanity even when he is fighting Voldemort. The purpose is very important as well. I believe that the main purpose of this story is to show that not everyone has a perfect life. Such as in the beginning, when Harry’s parents are dead and he lives with his Aunt and Uncle who are very cruel to him. They even lie to him! Some people may think they have it bad but others probably have it worse.
As you can see this is a tragedy and it follows the plotline perfectly. I thought this was a very well written book showing Harry’s adventures and such. J.K. Rowling’s books are my favorite. They are very interesting and very fun to read. Because of the symbolism, and plotline Harry Potter and the sorcerer’s stone by J.K Rowling followed the tragic mode of literature.
