Ponyboy Curtis and Will Knox’s Similarities and Differences

Authors note: The author’s purpose for writing this is to show you the differences and similarities between Ponyboy Curtis and Will Knox.
Have you ever compared the way you are to the way someone else is? Usually, when you compare yourself to someone else, you have similarities and differences. In the two books, “Guns for General Washington” and “The Outsiders”, the two main characters Ponyboy Curtis and Will Knox have similar relations.  If you read the two novels, you would know exactly what I’m talking about. Although the books are completely different, they still relate to each other.
In ways, Will and Ponyboy have similar traits. They both are the youngest of their groups. Will Knox being the youngest soldier fighting for George Washington, and Ponyboy being the youngest person in the Greasers. Will is very outgoing just like Ponyboy. Will was young, yet determined to battle, and Ponyboy was brave and determined to get revenge on the Socs, but realized they were all human, just like me and you. Both Pony and Will were courageous and brave. Ponyboy never backed down, he always kept going. At the rumble, Pony being which the youngest at the rumble, didn’t back down at all, even though he had to be half all the Socs sizes.
Another way Will and Pony are alike is neither of them were leaders. They were both more of followers of their two groups. Ponyboys group is the Greasers and Will is part of the army. Neither are leaders, but they have a great impact on what happens. Will comes up with the idea to deliver supplies to General Washington from Fort Ticonderoga to Boston. Ponyboy is the main reason why Johnny had killed Bob, He ran away and the drunken Socs decided to pick a fight. Johnny had no other choice but to kill the Socs from drowning Ponyboy. These two boys left major impacts on others. This shows how Will Knox and Ponyboy Curtis are alike.
On the other hand, Will and Ponyboy have their differences. One way is that Pony is a dynamic character and Will is a static character. Pony grows tremendously throughout his life, but Will doesn’t. Ponyboy realizes that just because people are Socs, doesn’t mean they’re exactly like their background or reputation, and same with the Greasers. People change throughout life. They learn to grow up and realize what’s right from wrong. He also realizes that the rumble wouldn’t resolve anything. Will is a static character because he stays the same throughout the novel. He’s always loved the army and his dream was to finally join them and to make a difference. He was born a good kid, always wanted to join the army, and accomplished this. Not once did Will back down. The boy could hardly ever even think about quitting. He never gave up, whether it was just a measly puzzle or battling the British. He had a passion and love to help and resolve problems. He still does, and this is why he is a static character. This is also why Ponyboy and Will are different from one another.
To conclude my essay, this shows similarities and differences between the two. No matter what, no one is the same as you. If anything, you’re most likely more different than you are a like from some. Although this is not always true in many cases, it’s a logical guess. Will and Ponyboy are more different then they are alike. Sure they have similarities but honestly, things are much different between them. This is shown because Will is a static character and Pony is a dynamic character. Although the books are completely different, they still relate to each other.
