Ponyboy Curtis and Will Knox’s Similarities and Differences

Authors note: The author’s purpose for writing this is to show you the differences and similarities between Ponyboy Curtis and Will Knox.
Have you ever compared the way you are to the way someone else is? Usually, when you compare yourself to someone else, you have both similarities and differences. In the two books, “Guns for General Washington” and “The Outsiders”, the two main characters Ponyboy Curtis and Will Knox have similar relations.  If you read the two novels, you would know exactly what I’m talking about. Although the books are completely different, they still relate to each other.
In ways, Will and Ponyboy have similar traits. They both are the youngest of their groups. Will Knox being the youngest soldier fighting for George Washington, and Ponyboy being the youngest person in the Greasers. Will is very outgoing just like Ponyboy. Will was young, yet determined to battle, and Ponyboy was brave and determined to get revenge on the Socs, but realized they were all human, just like you and me. Both Pony and Will were courageous and brave. Ponyboy never backed down, he always kept going. An example would be like when at the rumble, Pony being the youngest at the rumble, didn’t back down at all, even though he had to be half all the Socs sizes.
Another way Will and Pony are alike is neither of them were leaders. They were both more of followers of their two groups. Ponyboys group is the Greasers and Will is part of the army. Neither are leaders, but they have a great impact on what happens. Will comes up with the idea to deliver supplies to General Washington from Fort Ticonderoga to Boston. Ponyboy is the main reason why Johnny had killed Bob, He ran away and the drunken Socs decided to pick a fight. Johnny had no other choice but to kill the Socs from drowning Ponyboy. These two boys left major impacts on others. This shows how Will Knox and Ponyboy Curtis are alike.
On the other hand, Will and Ponyboy have their differences. One way is that Pony is a dynamic character and Will is a static character. Pony grows tremendously throughout his life, but Will doesn’t. Ponyboy realizes that just because people are Socs, doesn’t mean they’re exactly like their background or reputation, and same with the Greasers. People change throughout life. They learn to grow up and realize what’s right from wrong. He also realizes that the rumble wouldn’t resolve anything. Will is a static character because he stays the same throughout the novel. He’s always loved the army and his dream was to finally join them and to make a difference. He was born a good kid, always wanted to join the army, and accomplished this. Not once did Will back down. The boy could hardly ever even think about quitting. He never gave up, whether it was just a measly puzzle or battling the British. He had a passion and love to help and resolve problems. He still does, and this is why he is a static character. This is also why Ponyboy and Will are different from one another.
As you can see, this essay shows many examples of similarities and differences between the two. No matter what, no one is the same as you. If anything, you’re most likely more different than you are a like from some. Although this is not always true in many cases, it’s a logical guess. Will and Ponyboy are more different then they are alike. Sure they have similarities but honestly, things are much different between them. This is shown because Will is a static character and Pony is a dynamic character. Although the books are completely different, they still relate to each other.

Future for the Greasers

Authors Note: The author's purpose for writing this is to show you what life may be like for the Greaser's later on in the future.
Have you ever thought of what could happen after a story ends? Have you ever had a fortune teller predict your future? I certainly have. In the story “The Outsiders”, by SE Hinton, many events happen which make me wonder, “What would happen next?”  I don’t exactly know what could have or what did happen, but I have a good representation of what might have happened. Before doing something without knowing exactly what’s going to happen, you should make a prediction.
I believe Ponyboy and the rest of the Greasers will part away from each other. They will grow older and realize, “its time I make a decision, remain a kid and misbehave, or become an adult and take responsibility.” I think they will all decide it’s time to grow up. They’ve gone through too much and it’s time for a change. Also, I think they will depart from each other because of all the hysteria going around. First Johnny died, and now Dallas! I believe Ponyboy will go on to finish college and get a job and start a family. Although the Greasers are a family, sometimes you have to do what’s best for yourself. I believe they will part away because of all the mayhem thats gone on with their lives.
As you can see, this is a very logical prediction of what may occur in the future for the Greasers. I mean, Even if the Greasers did break up, the group would just get more members to it to keep the Greasers going. Everything happens for a reason though. Life isn’t always about taking the easiest path; it’s about doing the right thing and doing what’s best for you. Not only will the Greasers change, but so will the Socs. Not everything will always be like it is now for Ponyboy or the rest of the gang. Before doing something without knowing exactly what’s going to happen, you should make a prediction.

The Hardships of the Journey to Boston

Authors Note: The authors purpose is to show you what it was like while going to Boston and show the major conflicts that happened throughout the story.

What does the Revolutionary War mean to you? George Washington once said, “Associate with men of good quality if you esteem your own reputation; for it is better to be alone than in bad company.” This means that it’s better to work alone than with a bad group of people. During the revolutionary war, George Washington had a good fleet of people to acquaint him at battle. During the story, “Guns for General Washington” Will Knox and his brother Henry Knox are trying to transport supplies for war from Fort Ticonderoga to Boston to General Washington. After they get all these supplies, they have to deal with the British and plot an attack on them to win the war and claim the country as theirs.

The climax of the story is when Henry and Will Knox were trying to deliver the supplies to Boston.  Will and Henry had to risk a lot in order to deliver the supplies to General Washington. They fought many obstacles on their voyage to Boston. They went up against soldiers flanking them from everywhere, and blistering storms. Things were not easy for those who travelled with them. Half of them didn’t even have shoes. Many people suffered from the small pox and other sorts of diseases and did not make it. Carrying things through mountains was also difficult. In the end, it was all worth it though.

Another conflict they faced was the British, the war especially. They had to be very precautious about what they were planning on doing. If word hit the British about what was going on, they would have came after us instantly. They were everywhere, the British were always around no matter what you did or what you were doing, the British were there. The British were more prepared and had better supplies yet the lost. I believe this is so because of the determination and leadership by General Washington. Although, after Henry and will arrived they had all the supplies they needed to beat the British. Many people’s lives were lost but in the end it was all worth it. After beating the British, we all celebrated for our new land and country.

The events leading up to this were the British always trying to take over and boss the citizens around. They all agreed it was time for a change, time to say enough. General Washington gathered a fleet of men to fight the British with him. Will and Henry Knox got word of this and did the same. They delivered the goods to Boston to help stop the British from taking their land and bossing them around. This caused us to go to war and fight the British. The main conflict was resolved because they did beat the British and kick them back to where they came from. They delivered the supplies safely and went on to win the war.

That Horrifying Night for Paul Revere

Authors Note: The author’s purpose for writing this piece is to show you how it might be different for the reader if it was in Paul Revere’s prospective.

In the book “Guns for General Washington” the main character William Knox and his brother Henry Knox are soldiers in the Continental Army decide to bring General Washington cannons and other supplies to fight the British. Winter is brewing and they have yet to walk over 300 miles to receive their supplies. William, Henry, and their group of men must travel through brutal weather and harsh situations in order to reach Fort Ticonderoga, there destination. General Washington’s loyal spy Paul Revere is the one that figured out that this ambush would be happening. If it wasn’t for Henry Knox’s brilliant idea and Paul Revere’s bravery, none of this would ever happen and the people of Fort Ticonderoga would not live much longer. Their supplies are running low and they are in dire need of help. The scene I will be doing is Paul Revere spying on the British.

One way that Henry Knox’s point of view influences the reader is how he describes what’s going on and why. Henry is a soldier. He’s determined to help General Washington and fight for his and the people of Fort Ticonderoga’s freedom. Being the youngest soldier of the legion, he’s one of the most determined and bravest one of them all along. His older brother William Knox is also a very outgoing and brave soldier. He plays a big roll on Henry’s life and helped him to become such a great warrior. Although, if this story had been in Paul Revere’s prospective, the reader’s connection to the book would be a lot more thorough. Paul Revere Jr. is a very outgoing character and describes and acts more like he knows what’s going on. It’s also much easier and more interesting from his point of view because there’s more action and excitement. When Paul Revere told General Washington about British’s plan, if it would have been in Paul Revere’s point  of view, it would have been much clearer.

Without Paul Revere warning General Washington, the outcome of the upcoming battle may not have been the same. People could’ve died or been taken prisoner by the British. Luckily for General Washington, his two prestigious soldiers Henry and William Knox had brought supplies and food for their famine. Although, this is also because of Paul Revere’s courageous and brave acts.  These men all had a major role on this war. Without Paul, They wouldn’t have known what was coming, but without Will and Henry Knox, they wouldn’t have had enough of the right supplies to fight the British.

Ponyboy's Develpoment Through Life

Authors Note: The authors purpose for writing this was to show you how and why Ponyboy is a dynamic character.

What’s the difference between static and dynamic characters? A dynamic character is a character that changes throughout his or her life, and a static character is someone who stays the same. Ponyboy Curtis is a dynamic character. He Changes a lot throughout this story. Ponyboy is a 14 year old greaser, but doesn’t act like one. He lives with his two brothers Darry and Sodapop. He is a very interesting boy who changes a lot. Ponyboy resembles a dynamic character because of how much he changes throughout the story.
Ponyboy starts to get tougher as the story goes along. After his encounter with the Soc’s, he starts to push himself towards getting tougher. He also starts to get accepted by the Greaser’s. He’s no longer just Soda and Darry’s brother, he’s a Greaser. Even if he doesn’t act like one or seem to be one, it’s part of who he is. The whole gang starts to grow more found of Ponyboy and they don’t think of him as a follower. It shows this when Ponyboy, Two-Bit, and Johnny go to the movies together and start to talk more and become better friends.
After Johnny and Ponyboy kill Bob and run away, they have to change their looks. Ponyboy has to bleach his hair so that the police wouldn’t notice him and so that he wouldn’t blend in. Johnny cuts his hair and they pour peroxide on it and have him sit in the sun for fifteen minutes to lighten up the color. Now, there’s no way that he would be recognizable by anybody. Also, when Ponyboy is at the church, he starts to lose a lot of weight. The reason why is because the only food they had is bologna, and he absolutely despises it! Though this band of brotherhood within the Greasers is already so strong when Ponyboy and Johnny kill Bob, their brotherhood is pushed to its limits and turns out for the better.
As the books progresses, Ponyboy starts to grow up. He realizes that everyone is human and they all deserve equal respect. No one is any better than someone else, and Ponyboy realizes this when he looks at a different perspective of people. Instead of the Greasers being Greasers and the Socs being Socs, He realizes that hey, there really isn’t too much of a difference between the two of us, we’re all human, we just don’t act the same, look the same, or maybe even be the same, but we are all human. He also realizes the fight won’t get them anywhere at all.
In conclusion, this is why Ponyboy is a dynamic character. Throughout the story his looks, personality, and his prospective of Greasers and Socs all change quite a bit. Although not everyone is a dynamic character, Ponyboy is. He shows much growth and acts older and handles situations very well. He’s an outgoing boy and never gives up. Due to this, Ponyboy is a dynamic character. Ponyboy is a dynamic character because of how much he changes throughout the story.

Gresers Vs. Society and Socs

Authors Note: The authors purpose for writing this was to show you how and why Ponyboy is a dynamic character.

Don’t you just hate when people judge you by your looks before even knowing you? Have you ever heard the expression, “Don’t judge a book by its cover”? In the book “the outsiders”, there are two different types of people, the Socs and the Greasers. The Socs are known as the more popular, rich kids. The greasers are known as the poor delinquents. Although they aren’t really as bad as people may think. Too add to this, defying stereotypes is a very complex theme in this story.

Johnny Cade, a young Greaser, is thought to be a delinquent, but really, he's just misjudged. The Socs judge the Greasers by their looks. Johnny isn’t the most fortunate of people so he doesn’t look like he’s rich, he looks like he belongs to a gang, which he does. Johnny is actual a very nice 16 year old boy that is judged by the people he hangs out with. Just because the Greasers aren’t all rich, they shouldn’t be thought of as the scum on someone’s shoe.  Darry Curtis, the oldest member of the Greasers, is judge just because of who he hangs around with.

If Darry's parents hadn’t died in a car crash, he would have been most likely been a soc. He had a choice, give up his future in order to keep his family by taking care of his younger brothers Sodapop and Ponyboy, or take his chance at a scholership and be a very successful man. He used to be on the football team, he was once a star. He even had a scholarship for college, both academic and sport wise. Darry had his life set. He was popular, athletic, and smart, but he lost it all when his parents had died. If his parents hadn’t died, he would’ve been a Soc, and be living a good life. Instead, he is living in a bad neighborhood with the Greasers when he could be a Soc.

Before Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dallas had saved those kids from burning a live, they were believed to be horrible people because of their reputation, but really, they are no different from you and I. They just have a bad reputation. If people would stop and talk to them they would say,” hey, these guys aren’t half bad”. No one deserves to be mistreated for their looks or for who their friends are. I believe it isn't as much as the Greasers vs. Socs, but more of the Greasers vs. society. They are known as the bad, poor, and scummy kids, and no matter what they do, it doesn't change.

You shouldn’t judge a person before you get to know them it’s just not right. Who knows, maybe there really cool but look sort of funny, so you avoid them instead of finding out who they really are. People dont always have to be so stereotipical towards one another. Johnny, Darry, and the rest of the gang are judged before people ever really find out who they really are. They might be tough, and kind of scummy, but they still are humans.

Tragedy With the Greasers

Dear Ponyboy,
Why did you decide to run away? I mean, I know Darry might not be the best brother and he only hit you because he cares, and now, you’ve run off with Johnny after he killed Bob the head soc. Now you two are in deep trouble. The police and socs will be after you and the rest of the greasers. There will be questions to the rest of the greasers, they will find out you committed a murder and worry. I’m guessing Sodapop and Darry are both at home scared right now that you might have been killed, or will maybe never come back.
I think it was also very unnecessary for Johnny to have killed that soc. He was running away from him. I know you were almost about to breath your last breath Ponyboy, and it’s not your fault Johnny murdered the soc. He was just trying to protect you, but he also kind of ruined your reputation, and your life. Going to Dallas was a good Idea though, you got a gun for protection, and you got some new clothes even though there way to big on you. You also managed to get $50 to start you off on your new life.

Now you two are basically criminals, trying to run away from home after murdering a young boy. You guys even took a train to get out of town. You’re going to have to learn how to blend in while you’re there, well, you will eventually, word will get out soon about this you know. How are things for you now, I mean, you are a run-away child living in that old abandoned church? It sounds pretty creepy. Well I sure hope you can go back to your family all safe and cozy, like in the dream you had while sleeping at the church.
I really do hope you can get home to your regular everyday life. People are already worried about you and it won’t be the same without you. I couldn't imagine the pain and suffering your going through, but you handel the sittuation very well. If I was in your spot, i wouldn't be able to go through life nearly as easily as you. Well, I hope you will make it home as soon as possible. I guess i'll talk to you later Ponyboy.
Your friend, Alec

Am I Proud of my Country?

What is patriotism? To me, patriotism is the love, devotion, and willingness to sacrifice for your country. I’m very proud of my country and will show pride towards it. In order for your country to be successful, you need a ruler, someone to keep things in proportion. In America, our ruler Barack Obama helps the US everyday and enforces the law so people stay safe. He shows all the meanings to patriotism every day. Today, most people agree that patriotism includes service to the country in addition to showing your love.

Nearly all citizens of the US are proud to live in such a great country. One reason is that the country is a democracy. Our government allows us to have free will, and chose what we want (for the most part). On the contrary, this differs from most other countries and this is a main reason why many people respect our country. Not many people have this sort of free will, which is why so many people come to America.

Also, I am proud of my country, because you can choose your religion or faith. In other countries, such as Saudi Arabia, it is a monarchy, which allows you to only have one religion. Islam is the official religion, and the law requires that all citizens be Muslims. On the other hand, in the US you are allowed to believe in any religion you desire, which is also why I am proud of my country. Not many countries have this choice and I think it’s wonderful that we do.

To conclusion, America means a lot to me. If we had not had this country the same ways, I would most likely not be here. Religion and democracy are very important for a country and with the US allowing both of these options, is just breathe taking. I couldn’t bear to live in a country that wouldn’t allow me to choose my religion or to have free rights. Today, most people agree that patriotism includes service to the country in addition to showing your love.

Born to be champions

Authors note: My perpose for writing this writing piece is to show that if you really want to achieve something, you must believe in your self. This piece relates to my life and my love for football, I hope it will show you just how much football can truely change a person's life.

Charlie Wilson was an ordinary boy just trying to make it through life. Charlie was a new student at Meadow Bay high school in California. He recently Attended Franklin high school and was the star quarterback for the team. Meadow Bay and Franklin have been rivals sense the division begun. Charlie didn’t want to give up on Franklin, but it was for the best.

Steven Graham and Charlie had a talk about getting onto the Meadow Bay Wildcats. They had a short and quick talk about him being able to get on the team. Charlie came in just the nick of time to join the Meadow Bay Wildcats. His first practice would be the following Tuesday. When Tuesday had come, Charlie felt the need to impress the coaches and show them what he was capable of. Coach Fischer already knew Charlie from past events on which the Franklin Panthers had beaten the Meadow Bay Wildcats.

Coach Fischer informed the starting Quarterback Josh Kennedy of a standoff for which whom Quarterback was better between Josh Kennedy and Charlie Graham. They would be doing passing, agility, speed, and faking drills. Passing drill would be for accuracy and power. Speed and agility would be tested by scrambling and passing outside or inside the pocket. Josh had volunteered to perform first. Maybe, just maybe, Josh would choke and throw this all away, Charlie thought to himself.

The results were decent compared to his usual performances, but now its Charlie’s turn to show his skills. Charlie decided to start off with an accuracy test. He was doing really good till the last 3 throws; the first throw was a seam route pass to the TE. Charlie miss interpreted this and threw the ball as if he was running a post route. The next attempted throw was a quick slant to WR. Charlie didn’t lead him enough so the throw ended up about a foot behind him. Then, on his last throw, a TE quick hit, was thrown with too much air and was thrown over the attended receivers head. Coach let Charlie and josh know that the results will be decided by the end of practice.

It was nearing more towards the middle of practice when Charlie witnessed an unpleasant feeling in his lower gut; he started to think it was likely that he wouldn’t have achieved the starting quarterback position. Although, he knew he had to be tough and fight from beginning to end and believe in his goal which was to obtain starting quarterback. Charlie feared that his quarterback days might be over, although he felt that he did better than Josh.

It was now time for coach to wrap up the practice. He preached to the team and said, “Charlie, you showed much confidence in the way you threw the ball, I have chosen you to start quarterback over Josh. Although Josh is a mighty fine quarterback, I know he can catch marvelously and would be happy if you would like to be one of my starting receivers.” Charlie showed some extraordinary plays and was now claimed the starting quarterback. The team applauded Charlie and Josh. Charlie had thought to himself that this season was going to be a good one.

Football’s Importance to America

Authors note: the authors purpose of writing this was to show people that football is important and without it the world wouldnt be the same. I can relate to this because of my love and passion towards football.

To me, football is the best sport in the world. It involves lots of mental and physical traits. It requires a lot of effort and must always have faith in you and your team and never let the other team to get to you. Hanging your head is an example of letting the other players gets to you. In order to win, you must be determined, ready to play, be outgoing, and leave everything you have in you on the field. Without football, many people wouldn’t have jobs, and the world might be turned to chaos.

Without football, the world wouldn’t be the same. countless people have cable just for football, which would lead to cable company’s profits deflating such as Time Warner Cable, Dish, or even Direct TV. Some people spend their Sundays watching football, or having a party with friends or family. I can almost guarantee if you go to a party on Sunday, you’ll probably see some sort of football game for entertainment of some sort.

Also, for many people, football plays a major role in their lives. Lots of people might get jobs at the games to help their families. No one who are pro’s would be making the money they do now, well, most likely they wouldn’t be. Charity homes are often funded by football associates or foundations. All around the world, lots of people may know football as being a major sport of America. Football plays a major role in my life because not only is it my dream to go to the NFL, but it gives me something to do during my leisure time.

Football involves skill, effort, and much more. Football is not only good for those who make money, but it’s also a good way for kids and adults to get and stay active. About one third or 33.8% of American citizens are obese. If we could get those of which that are obese to join an athletic activity such as football, I think this percentage would decrease majorly over a certain period of time. Who knows, maybe you would find out your actually really good at this, or enjoy playing football or some other sport. Football may play a major role in many people’s lives such as it does to mine. This is one of few good ways to get people active.

Football is important because for many people, it’s a profession. Also, without football, the world wouldn’t be the same. Getting active can be tough, but playing football is a great way to do it. It involves skill, effort, and more. It’s a great personal experience as well. Those of which that don’t participate in football or any other sport, I highly recommend you start. Just remember how big of some things may mean to you, so don’t take them for granite. Football means a lot to me and it may be a one in a life time experience for me but I’m always going to respect and follow the sport until I die. Without football, many people wouldn’t have jobs, and the world might be turned to chaos.

Why Xbox 360 is the Best Game Console Ever

Authors note: the authors purpose is to show you that an Xbox 360 is an amazing thing, almost as if its a gift from god. I can relate myself to this because of my love towards Xbox.

I believe Xbox 360 is the best game console ever. It’s better than all other consoles, such as PS3, Wii, or any handheld devices. If I could, I would become a dictator and hypnotize the whole world into buying an Xbox so that it would be on the top of the list for best game consoles ever, not like it already isn’t. I hate PS3’s and if I could I would destroy all of them in the world. I would even prefer to have an Xbox over my phone! Although I don’t play Xbox very often, I think it’s the best game console possible.

Xbox is the best station ever because it has amazing quality. Graphics are a big deal to me, and Xbox has great graphics. The graphics almost make you feel like you’re playing with real live people or things! The sound is also great. It’s clear and makes you really get absorbed in the game. No other game stations have this good of quality. The PS3 is probably the second best station in quality, (although I hate it) but is still nothing compared to the Xbox’s.

Although most stations game company’s make games for all stations, there are games made only for Xbox. For example, Halo is one of these games. Halo is a game where a squad of people that are in the USNC go to other planets and have t o kill the Covenant. The USNC are also called Spartans. It’s one of Xbox’s top games ever sold and has made Xbox a very popular station. Although the Wii has separate games for it too, I would still pick Xbox over the Wii. The Wii’s best selling games are its Mario games. I believe Halo is much better.

Another reason why Xbox 360 is the best station ever, is that it can have Netflix and other fun accessories. Netflix is a type of Movie player that allows you to access any show you want, instantly to your game station for only ten dollars a month. You can search the web with Xbox too. There are many cool necessities such as Hulu, which is TV without the commercial. Also, with Xbox, you can buy mini games. You can also play games from the original Xbox on Xbox 360 with a hard-drive. The best thing about Xbox is Xbox live. This allows you to play with people all around the world. This may also give you somewhat of a challenge.

This proves why Xbox 360 is the best game station ever. It has the best quality, the best necessities, and the best games. This shows that Xbox is the best and no other station is in comparison with Xbox. Xbox may lead to the next generation of gaming and open up new ideas for people all around. Although I don’t play Xbox very often, I think it’s the best game station possible.

To Kill a Mockingbird

Before all people from the US received equal rights, why was it that we as people thought different races didn’t get equal respect? In the book “To Kill a Mockingbird”, by Harper Lee, The white people thought that other races, such as Native Americans were not as good as they were. They thought just because there white there a higher power than other nationalities. There are many themes in this book but I decided to pick the two major things I noticed while reading this book. The first theme I noticed was that sometimes people are judged before they are known. The second and final theme is that sometimes people are wrongly accused of things that they would never even think of doing. Before equal rights were established, white people thought they were among the Native Americans in this book although everyone deserves equal respect.

The first theme that I’ve chosen is sometimes people are judged before they are known. An example of this is Dolphus Raymond. People think that he is a dreadful person because he spends all his leisure time with black people. They believe Dolphus does it because he is always drinking. After the kids in the town get to know him, they find out that he is a kind, sweet man who drinks coca-cola all the time, not alcohol. One quote that shows this is, "Scout, it's nothing but Coca-Cola."Another example from the story is, "You just pretend you're half-? I beg your pardon, sir." They don’t think people should hate Dolphus just because of who he lives with. This leads to my conclusion of the first theme I chose from the book, sometimes people are judged before they are known.

The second theme that I selected is shown in this book is sometimes people are wrongly accused of things that they definitely did not do. One example of this is Tom Robinson. He is accused of sexual assault, even though he did not do anything but things that are nice and proper. He went to the Ewell's house to help out Mayella, and she tried to kiss him. Then Tom got convicted just because he was black. Mr. Ewell did not care that he did not do anything to Mayella, he was just in the room and he was also black. That was a good enough reason to press charges on an innocent young man. A quote that shows this is, "Guilty...guilty...guilty.”

I don’t believe that black people should be treated unfair just because of their skin color. They are just as much human as you and I. This is a very racial book towards the black people. It was a very sad book to, and very exciting and thrilling at the same time. This book represents many racial terms towards black people. It seems as if to me that before people got there equal rights that the world was a much more prejudice place. Even though the white people are treated better than the black people in this book, everyone should be equally treated.

Baseball

One hot summer day a boy named Jimmy who had just moved into town wanted to play play baseball. His mom called the baseball team and asked if they would be willing to let Jimmy play on the team. Coach Taylor said it was to late. Jimmy's mom had no idea what she was going to tell him. The next day she knew she had to do the right thing by telling Jimmy that he was not able to play this year. Jimmy didn't take things to well. He ran to his room and buried his face in his pillow. Jimmy's mom felt awful. The next day Jimmy had asked a boy named Carl who lived in his neighborhood if his team had practice any time soon. Carl answered; "Well we have a practice tonight and our first game is in 3 days."

Jimmy asked if he could go with Carl to the practice tonight. He wanted to show coach Taylor that he was an amazing athlete. Jimmy thought he would sure enough ask for his assistance for the rest of the year. After Jimmy gathered all his stuff for the practice, he started walking over to Carl's. The coach watched Jimmy as he played and was astonished by his effort and ability to play ball. Coach Taylor told him he could be on the team. Jimmy ran home to tell his mom the good news and was tremendously happy! He couldn't help but think how fun his upcoming game would be.

Friday the 13th

On Friday the 13th, 2000, a young boy thought it would be funny to prank his friend Josh by pretending to be Jason that he had saw off the scary movies. The day before Friday he decided to prepare himself for the ultimate prank. He went to the store to get props, then went to a costume shop to get a costume. Friday, he had waited till sunset to move out and prank Josh. Josh was sitting in his room playing video games when all of a sudden he heard tapping on his window. He was stunned and could not move for about 10 seconds. Then, he heard it again, only this time it was a different window. He ran to his moms room to tell his mom but on the kitchen counter he saw a note. The note said "Josh, I'm out eating ill be back at around midnight." Josh was even more scared.

Josh then heard someone knocking on his door. He opened the door and saw a huge puddle of blood, a kitchen knife, and a propped body. He called the cops and soon enough they arrived at 9:27 PM. They hopped to conclusions and said that it must have been a neighborhood kid fooling around. As the officer was telling Josh to not worry about it and get some sleep, the officers phone was called and he had a speed chase to attend. They left the house at around 9:53 PM. Soon enough after they had left, Josh's home phone started ringing. The phone said unauthorized caller. Josh answered anyway and heard a strange man saying look at your bedroom window. Josh dropped his phone. He ran to his room quickly and saw what too look like a figure of a mans body. He opened the window and started yelling at the man saying, "What the heck are you doing on my lawn!" The man slowly faded away into the shadows.

At about 10:42 PM he heard the doorbell ring and ran downstairs quickly. Josh went into the cabinet to find a gun. He opened the door and saw the man standing there with a butcher knife. He shot the man and took his mask off. He found out it was his friend named Chris and quickly called 911. The police arrived at his house about 5 minutes later with an ambulance. They rolled him out on a stretcher and took him to the hospital. Luckily, Chris was fine after getting 6 stitches in all. He had no arteries damaged and was back to school within the week. Chris never forgave Josh no matter how hard he tried to ask for rejoice.

SpongeBob

SpongeBob was one of my favorite TV shows as a little boy. I watched it almost everyday after school and never got tired of it. Whenever they made a new show I would always get so excited and me and my older brother would watch all their marathons up until the new ones. I used to have SpongeBob sheets and SpongeBob stuffed animals. I was over obsessed with him!

NFL

Since i was a young boy, my dream has been to make it into the NFL. My favorite team is the packers. Aaron Rodgers is a big influence on me. He is one of my idols along with Brett Favre. Even though he did leave the Packers i still respect him for all his time he was there and what he did for the team. Brett is one of the best Quarterbacks ever to set foot in the NFL. He's broken many records and still holds them. Hes played for 4 different teams. The Falcons, Packers, Jets, and Vikings. He is a very known person and an NFL legend.

Hunting

Every year I go up to North Dakota to go Pheasant hunting. We usually also go to Wyoming and go Pronghorn hunting. I love hunting for birds. There's always action and you never get bored. It does require a lot of walking but its nothing hard. Two years ago my brother got 13 birds and my dad got 11. I was to young to hunt but it was still fun. My whole family usual goes up and its just an amazing time for everyone.

Fishing

I like to fish. Its a great outdoor activity. Every summer, my family takes a trip up north to our cabin and we go fishing and swimming. Since we live on the lake, I take my little brother and sister out to fish. Although all they catch are bluegill and very small perch, its a good experience for them to have. Fishing can get very boring if you don't catch anything but its something that requires patients. If u don't have that, i suggest not trying to do it at all.

Clouds

When i was a young boy i used to always stare at the clouds and try to make figures out of them. Clouds are white, puffy, and very high up in the air. I wish i could be up in the air like them. I love flying. When i was about 4 years old, me and my older brother went on a plane by ourselves going to visit my grandma in North Carolina. We flew through a bunch of clouds. At first, I thought they would break off and just split into two but it turns out clouds are basically just water.

Friends

Everyone in this world has to have at least one friend, right? I have many friends. Helen Van Buskirk is one of my friends. She has been helping me chose topics. Although i chose to do this one by myself, its dedicated to her. Helen is obsessed with this one guy named Stefan. He has a total afro and looks very unusual but she thinks hes so hot. Andrea even agrees with me that he's not, but oh well. Everybody has their own taste I guess.

Chairs

Chairs have many uses. We humans use them for sitting on. Mainly they are either made out of wood, plastic, or metal. Without chairs this world would be a crisis. People would be sitting on the grounds. It would make our butts hurt, make teaching harder, and make eating harder! We would have to have small tables and we would be very uncomfortable. Unless we had cushions but still, that's not the point. The point is chairs are more of a necessity.

Long-Arm Quarterback

Did you know Brett Favre, former Quarterback for the Packers, holds the record for most yards thrown in the NFL? In the book “Long-Arm Quarterback”, a boy named Cap really wants to play football but there aren’t enough players to start a team. Two of the major themes in this story are favoritism and disrespect. Even though some may think they are just favoring some people over others, it’s not always true.
The first theme, “favoritism” is shown when a boy named Cap who is the coach’s son, is supposed to be the starting quarterback. Sable Cash’s son Jimmy is also a quarterback. Mr. Cash thinks the only reason that Cap is starting is because he is the coach’s grandson. This is not true because the reason why Tully is starting him is because Cap is a better quarter back than Jimmy.
Although favoritism plays a big role in this book, disrespect is another. Jimmy’s father Sable Cash is always up in Tully’s coaching who is Cap’s grandfather. Sable always tries to take over the coaching and tries to put down both Tully and Cap. This is very disrespectful. Also, after Cowpens scrimmage against Sandville they started talking about the other players in a disrespectful manor. These are some examples from the book.
I think that people should just understand that they aren’t trying to play favorites. They’re just trying to make the right decision. Some people just can’t face the fact that not all the time they’re the best or that they’re offspring are better than others. Also, people should never disrespect they’re elders. That would be as if I were to disrespecting my parents or my teachers. Even though some may think they are just favoring some people over others, it’s not always true.

The Things Story

Once upon time there was a hook. On that hook there was a napkin. It was not any ordinary napkin. It was a Green Bay Packers napkin. Then one day there came along a cue tip and a cotton ball. So the new things got used in a day then the napkin did. So one day the napkin left off the hook. So the hook became very lonely.

Then two new things came along. It was a colored pencil and a battery. That was best friends, no matter what they never left one behind even if it meant that the other would be in danger. After a while they colored pencil and the battery became friends and had lots of fun. Then one day the napkin wanted to come home. So then when the napkin went to the door and saw. His friend the hook hanging out with two new thing and got really sad and left and never came back.

Leonardo da Vinci

When i see this picture it makes me think about society. It makes me think this way because of all the inventions Leonardo da Vinci has made. He has helped in so many ways towards our evolution. Da Vinci lived from 1452-1519. His spand of life may seem rather short but back then the average adult lived to be about 30! Leonardo had many paintings, such as; Mona Lisa, Madonna of the Rocks, and the Last Supper. His
Estimated IQ  was believed to be about 220. That's more than any other person to walk this planet. He was an artist for 50 years, but he only completed about 10 pictures. Da Vinci would buy birds at market and set them free because he was a vegetarian and refused to eat meat. He thought that the birds should be released and free. there is to be believed about 30,000 papers left behind from da Vinci. Almost all the papers are still missing. Leonardo da Vinci was believed to be the greatest artist of all times.

Authors note: This picture represents one of Leonardo da Vinci's miraculous inventions. This was his glider he had invented. It was believed that one thing that da Vinci had always wanted to do was to fly. He was inspired by this.

Responce essay on the Hundredth Dove

Do you ever think to yourself that perhaps there is a little magic sometimes in life? In the book “The Hundredth Dove” by Jane Yolen, a man named Hugh is a servant for the king. Hugh supplied game birds to the palace but you will see that not all the birds are so alike. There are two main themes in this book. One which is kind hearted, and the other which is magic. One thing very good about Hugh, is that he is a very caring person.

The first them in, “The hundredth Dove” is kind hearted. Being kind hearted Is shown when Hugh is speaking to the king and the king quotes; “In honor of my bride, the Lady Columbia, whose name means dove and whose beauty is celebrated in all the world, I wish to serve one hundred of the birds at our wedding feast.” Lady Columbia gasped and held up her hand. “Please do not serve them sire.” But the king said to the Fowler, “I have spoken. Do not fail me, Fowler.” Hugh didn’t like this idea of killing the birds at all, but he had to do it. Instead of killing the birds he caught them in a net and brought them to the kitchen. This shows how Hugh is kind hearted because he did not want to kill the doves although he did kill one of the 99 doves. These acts of kindness are shown by both Lady Columbia and Hugh in many different situations.

Although the first theme may be an important source in the story, you must not forget the second theme. The second theme in this story is magic. This is shown when Hugh is out trying to capture all of the doves. Hugh must capture 100 doves before the wedding. On the first day he gets 21, all which are grey except one, which was white. Hugh releases this dove and keeps the other 20. Everyday Hugh always captures the white dove but it always gets away, but on the fifth day, he only gets 19 grey doves and the one white dove. The dove flees the net quickly. Hugh decides he must go out hunting for this dove so he goes, out catches it, and all of a sudden, it starts speaking in what is sound to be like a woman’s voice. This was thought to be unreal. It kept asking Hugh to release him; But Hugh kept denying the dove. After asking Hugh three more times Hugh finally says, “Neither gold nor silver tempt me” then Hugh snaps the birds neck.

This was a very well written story. It had many examples of the two themes I decided to write about. There was a lot more themes in this book but I chose the two I saw most used. In this book Hugh was kind hearted and there were a few examples in this story. Hugh also witnessed a talking to dove which resembled magic. One thing very good about Hugh, is that he is a very caring person.

Music

Music is  great and fun to listen to. I love music especially metal. Metal is my favorite type of music. It sounds a lot better than rap and hip hop and isn't all computerized. I dislike most rap and hip hop. There is only a few songs i like and i only really like one raper. His name is Slim Shady. Slim Shady is a very good raper and some of his songs are funny but others are sad. My favorite band is Rise Against. They are very good and they are a metal/rock band. I love listening to music. It helps me concentrate and relaxes me.

Barn Burning

Why is it that so many people can be so greedy when they have more than what they need? In the book, “Barn Burning” by William Faulkner, There are two major themes. One of the themes is demand, the other theme which is racism. Both themes are present throughout most of the book. Even though life may be rough, enjoy what you got.

The first theme which is “demand” is shown when everyone is bossing around the black people. The father is always telling the boy to do things for him. He is always trying to make him do this work. Another example is when they are in the court and the black man is getting charged for “burning” the farmer’s barn down. He didn’t even do this but what made the farmer think it was him, was because the night before the black man had said “He say to tell you wood and hay kin burn.” That night the barn burned down and the man had thought it was because of the black man from what he had told him that very night. These series of events lead up to when the justice at the court had demanded he leave at once but was filed with no charges. These are examples regarding to “demand” in this book.

Although the first theme “demand” was important, the other theme racism is not to forget. In this book none of the black people are treated very well. Everyone uses foul, harsh language towards them in which cannot be said. For some odd reason no one seems to like people with different color of skin back in the old days. They always boss them around and talk bad about them. This is shown when in the book the white man says “he was a strange person.” (Person is not the real word put in this short novel) This is shown more than one time in this story. This is a main example of one of the major themes “racism”.

This book shows a lot of symptoms of racism and demand. This was a very exciting book and thrilling to read. I believe that the father was a little too demanding and that the farmer was very racist and mean towards the black man. I thought the author did a tremendous job writing this book. Even though life may be rough, enjoy what you got.

North Carolina

When I was in second grade I visited my grandma who lives in North Carolina. I visited for eleven days. Me and my older brother Kyler both went. We had to go in a plane all by ourselves! It was very scary but all the attendants were very nice and offered us soda and nuts. It was about an hour and a half ride. Time had passed very slowly till we had arrived to the airport! My grandma was waiting for us and right when we walked out the doors she ran up to me and Kyler and gave us a big hug. Then we were off to my grandmas house. She owns two houses, one which is on the beach, and another which isn't. I don't know exactly where her house is that isn't on the beach but it is about an hour away from her beach house. Me and Kyler share a room with all kinds of sea creatures on the walls. Time flew so fast because we were having so much fun. Every morning my grandma would make us a big breakfast, then we were off to the ocean to play, surf, and swim. We did this every day. One day, she took us to a nearby turtle resort were they keep tons of turtles. It was very fun and when we were outside me and my brother were trying to catch these small lizards running around and climbing on a fence that had surrounded the building. These lizards were called blue racers and are known to be one of the fastest species of lizards in the South Eastern part of the US. Visiting my grandma is my favorite time of the year because she is so nice to me and my family. My family is taking us to North Carolina to visit my grandma this summer for a vacation. I hope things will be just as fun this year as it was any of the other times I've visited her!

Food

Do you like food? I LOVE FOOD! It's one of my favorite times of day. Every morning i eat a big breakfast and eat as much as i can for lunch. I don't usually eat that much dinner though but it just all depends on what my mom cooks. My favorite food is pizza. I like cheese and sausage pizza the most. The only pizza i don't like is ones with a lot of vegetables on it or pineapple. I like almost all foods. They make you big and strong although some foods may not be too good for your health. The cheese pizza from the pizzaria in Pewaukee is the best. I love it so much they fill it with sauce and put a lot of cheese on top.

Electronics

I love electronics. Without them the world would be so dull and boring. I own a Xbox 360. It's very entertaining and keeps me from annoying others. I own many games. my favorite game is either Halo 3 or Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. They are very fun and they are first hand shooting games. Me and my two brothers Kyler and Blaine all play it against each other. My little brother always freaks out at me when i dominate him. It's very funny to watch. I also own a T.V. and an I Pod touch. I don't use my I-Pod that much and i only use my T.V. for playing video games, even though i barely play because it is better to go outside and be active.

HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS

Why is Harry Potter always in harm’s way? In the book Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets there are two main themes, one which is danger, and the other which is courage. In the book Harry needs to have both of these to defeat Voldemort, one of the greatest known wizards known! Even though Harry is constantly in trouble, he always finds a way to keep himself alive.

One of the main themes in this book is danger. In this book a very dark, evil wizard named Voldemort is after Harry. When Harry finds Tom riddles diary, he soon figures out that when he writes a question that what he wrote would disappear and the book would right an answer back to him. Harry quotes; “can you tell me about Tom Riddel?” and the book replies “No, but I can show you.” And then it takes Harry back into time to show him what had happened that day with Hagrid and him. Then when Harry finds the secret chamber in the bathroom, he goes down into Tom’s lair and finds out Tom Marvolo Ridde is Lord Voldemort. If you were to unscramble the words it would be “I am Lord Voldemort.” Since Tom could speak to snakes he brought out a giant snake to try to kill harry. Harry defeats the snake and saves Ron’s Sister Jenny and returns back to Hogwarts. This shows that harry is always in danger.

Although the first theme of the book was danger, we must not forget the second theme, courage. Harry Potter must have courage when he is fighting Tom Riddel. Without all his courage he would not be able to have survived through this battle. Harry also needs courage to even try and stop him! Harry is a very courageous young boy. Harry probably wouldn’t have even gone to Hogwarts if he wasn’t so determined and courageous. He would have listened to Dobby when he had told him that Lord Voldemort was back. These examples show that Harry has a lot of courage to have gone to Hogwarts this year and to have fought, and won the battle against Tom Riddle and the snake.

I love the whole Harry Potter series. Harry, (the main character) is just an amazing person. Harry is always in trouble with Lord Voldemort always after him, but he is always careful about things. Although he may get himself involved in more things than he has to he is still a very smart person. J.K. Rowling’s is just a tremendous writer and her Harry Potter series just takes you to a whole new world. Even though Harry is constantly in trouble, he always finds a way to keep himself alive.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

I believe harry potter and the sorcerer’s stone by J.K. Rowling’s is a tragedy. At the beginning of the story harry is living with his Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon. Harry spends all his time at home and never gets to do anything fun or go or have friends over. He is mistreated just because his aunt and uncle know he is different. Harry is a wizard but he does not know this yet. Because of the symbolism, and plotline Harry Potter and the sorcerer’s stone by J.K Rowling followed the tragic mode of literature.

This book had much resemblance to showing how it is a tragedy. Like at the beginning of the book, Harry Potter is a very nice, well behaved boy but is treated terribly. Harry is lied to by his aunt and uncle, made fun of by his cousin Dudley, and has never even had a birthday present! This is resemblance to the main character is in a conflict. Before all this had even happened, Harry’s parents had been killed and Harry had survived somehow, with only having a scar on his forehead in the shape of a lightning bolt. This resembles a tragic flaw in the story. The death or death symbolism is at the end of the book when harry kills Voldemort by finding out that if he touches him he burns to ashes and dies. This is in resemblance to death because Voldemort is dead because Harry had killed him, well kind of. Lord Voldemort doesn’t really die he is in the body of a young professor who works at Hogwarts, Even though Lord Voldemorts spirit still exists.

Although the plotline of the mode of literature is important, the characteristics are just as important. Harry Potter is in control. He doesn’t let things get to his head and he doesn’t freak out about things. He’s very calm and keeps his sanity even when he is fighting Voldemort. The purpose is very important as well. I believe that the main purpose of this story is to show that not everyone has a perfect life. Such as in the beginning, when Harry’s parents are dead and he lives with his Aunt and Uncle who are very cruel to him. They even lie to him! Some people may think they have it bad but others probably have it worse.

As you can see this is a tragedy and it follows the plotline perfectly. I thought this was a very well written book showing Harry’s adventures and such. J.K. Rowling’s books are my favorite. They are very interesting and very fun to read. Because of the symbolism, and plotline Harry Potter and the sorcerer’s stone by J.K Rowling followed the tragic mode of literature.

There once was a young boy named Bill. He was walking to school when all of a sudden he was taken in by the cops. Bill was always a good kid and never had done anything bad and had no idea why he was being taken in. He knew he hadn't broken any rules and never stole anything, so maybe it was one of his family members! when he arrived at the station, sure enough it had been his best friend Joey. Joey had stolen 4 candy bars from wal-mart and was being arrested for the night. He was frightened and knew never to do this again. Bill was very curious why Joey had stolen the candy, so he asked him and he replied saying "I don't know i didn't think before i acted." Bill knew he was sorry and wasn't gonna ever do it again. he was relieved to know he hadn't done anything. Bill went home and fell asleep on the couch. the next morning he woke up and got ready for school, then he was off to school in no time! Bill had so many questions to ask joey when he got there like "was jail scary?" or "was the food bad?". Bill didn't even know where to start he had so many questions!

Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban

The main character is a young teenage boy named harry potter. Harry had been going to school to learn how to become a wizard. It was his third year at Hogwarts. The main idea of this story is Harry Potter defeating his fear from dementors and saving an old friend of his parents named Serious Black. For example, when harry was on the train going to Hogwarts, the train had stopped. Everything was still. The air was cool and there were no sudden movements, when all of a sudden a dementor came through the sliding doors and had started to suck the life out of harry. Luckily, there had been a man named Professor Loopin who had known the spell on how to stop a dementor, expecto patronum. He had fought the dementor off and harry was saved. This is an example of how he is in fear of a dementor.

Now, harry is trying to overcome this fear so he goes to professor Loopin and asks how to use the spell, “expecto patronum.” Looping helps harry accomplish this spell and harry is now fearless of the dementors. Now, harry is trying to overcome this fear so he goes to professor Loopin and asks how to use the spell “expecto patronum.” Looping helps harry accomplish this spell and harry is now fearless of the dementors. This is an example of how harry had fear and had conquered it.

Although harry had been trying to overcome his fear of dementors, now he is going to save an old friend of his family named Serious Black. Now he is back to his second goal which is trying to actually kill serious Black who is the man that he eventually wants to save! Harry had heard that a man named serious Black was the man who helped Voldemort kill his parents. Although this was not true, Harry was too angry to realize this.

The man who had really helped Voldemort kill his parents was Peter Pettigrew (Ron’s rat). Serious Black had now run down into the forest and dementors came and started to suck his soul out. Harry had come down to try and stop them but there were far too many to fight off. Harry had almost passed out along with Serious Black and almost died, but all of a sudden a strange white figure had come out and wiped out all of the dementors. Although Harry and Serious passed out, serious had been taken back to Azkaban and harry had been brought back to Hogwarts were he could be healed. Harry and his best friend Hermeone went back in time with one of Hermeone’s rare, special items and saved Black from Azkaban.

Harry had overcome his fear of the dementors and had also saved an old friend of his parents and a new friend of his, Serious Black. Although, it had not been easy for him, mainly because he is a teenage boy, yet he managed to accomplish it. Harry is a remarkable boy and is very brave and courageous. Harry does many things in this book that no man could bear to attempt. I liked this book because it is very fun to read and is very interesting and has a lot of details in it. It is a very well written story by J.K. Rowling.

Snowday

On Wednesday, February 2nd, our school had a snowday. It was very boring though because my house is boring and there is nothing to do but play videogames, but eventually i get bored of playing them. Although, there was an upside to this snowday. Its pretty obvious. We didn't have to do school work or go to school! well we did have to do school work but there wasn't very much of it. Furthermore, at least we had no school.

Chuckie Cheese!(:

I love Chuckie cheese. I used to go there all the time when i was little. There are so many awesome, fun games to play there. you can win many cool prizes too! Although, its not just about the games. some of them have Ball pits! The ball pits are my favorite thing to do at Chuckie Cheese. I haven't been to Chuckie cheese in forever. I want to go there for my next birthday.

Superbowl

This week the superbowl is happening. It is being held in Dalas Texas. The two teams facing eachother are the Green Bay Packers and the Pitsburg Steelers. This will be a very tough game for both teams. It is the football event of the year! the Pitsburg Steelers Quarterback Ben Rothlesburger, is a great QB. Although, in my opinion I think Aaron Rogers is a little bit better than Ben. The main defensive player for the Steelers is Troy Polamalu. He is an amazing player. The packers have many good defensive players as do the Steelers, but the Packers have also had a few injuries this year. This is the main football game of the year and many people will be attending this. No one can tell who will win but they can make a prediction but it will not be exact.

DEEP WATER

William Douglas, the author of many short novels, including a short story book called “Deep Water.” This book has a lot of horrifying parts in it. I would not like to be him in this book. As terrifying as this experience must’ve been one may never really know what it’s like to experience this awful thing. This is a good thing for those who have not yet or never experienced this but most people would never know the feeling of almost breathing your last breaths while suffocating underwater!

Being in this situation is unimaginable. You must first experience this before knowing the horror of this dreadful flaw happening to this young boy. He was only 10 years old at the time when an older boy who looked as if he was in college or at least 18 called him scrawny and threw him into the water. He had nearly drowned. William thought that if he sank to the bottom of the pool and then kicked off the tiles to shoot him up to the top he could swim to safety.

This didn’t work too well. William had only got his nose out of the water but couldn’t manage to get his mouth out so that he could breath. William tried this several times but all attempts failed. He found himself on the side of the pool and started to cough and puke. William is now frightened and terrified by water. He couldn’t even go onto a boat without his legs freezing up and himself being paralyzed.

This affected him with not being able to do any activities with water such as fishing, swimming, or canoeing. William decided to get a trainer to help him not fear water anymore. This had worked and helped him out a lot he is not afraid anymore. I could never imagine being in William’s situation. The horror of almost breathing my last breath is just horrifying. I hope to never be in William’s position.

This short novel was very well written. It was very sad and must’ve been a terrible experience for William Douglas. If anyone who hasn’t been in this sort of a situation thought about this, it wouldn’t be a very happy thought. Just thinking about this is terrible. I couldn’t stand almost losing my life at such a young age. Although I didn’t like this book it was still such a sad short story and very well written also.

The Pearl

John Steinbeck's story, “The Pearl” provides an insight into the destructive nature of greed. Kino, the main character, lives with his wife Juana and small baby boy, Coyotito. In the story the pearl, Coyotito is bitten by a scorpion and desperately needs medical care. However, the town’s doctor refuses to treat Coyotito because he is racist and refuses to heal him because of his skin color. Luckily, Kino makes a brilliant discovery, discovering a unique pearl known as "The Pearl of the World." Now, the doctor tries to get the pearl from Kino, so he hires a man to go out and kill Kino. The man who had attacked Kino was unsuccessful. Kino had stabbed him with a knife. Kino was a very greedy person and cared only about this pearl.

Kino’s obsession with the pearl was just absurd. He was so greedy and could care less about what would happen to Coyotito and Juana. Kino and Juana had been forced to leave the town with Coyotito because it was no longer safe for them to remain there. Too many people had found out about the pearl and would do anything to get there greedy hands on it. However, as his wife Juana repeatedly suggests, the great pearl could lead to misfortune rather than happiness. Juana tries to throw the pearl out so that their family would no longer be in a crisis. Kino sees her and finds her and decides to resort to violence and hit her and bruise her badly for trying to throw out his pearl which he thinks is a “gift from god.”

This is an example of Kino caring more about the pearl than his family and him being very greedy. His son Coyotito was shot and injured very badly. Only after his son dies does Kino comes to a point when he finally realizes this pearl is not worth tearing their family apart. They have already lost Coyotito and don’t want anything along this line to happen to them so finally he gets with reality and tossed “the pearl of the world” back into the sea. He returns home with his wife Juana after they had tossed the pearl into the sea. This is an example of him finally grasping to reality and starts to realize the pearl had caused the death of his first born. This made him not be greedy anymore and to get rid of this devil pearl.

I thought this story was very well written. I believe the purpose of the story “The Pearl” was to show us that you don’t have to have more valuables than what you need. You can’t have what you want all the time so be grateful for what you have. Kino became very greedy and caused it to where his child Coyotito dies. This peal had a devil in it and caused him to beat up his wife Juana. Kino dug himself into a deep hole because he wouldn’t just get rid of this pearl. He was much too greedy and cared more about it than his own family!

Chapter one

In chapter one, Coyotito (Kino and Juana's child) gets stun by a scorpion and becomes very ill. Kino and Juana try to find someone to cure him. When Kino was out pearling, he finds a rare, large pearl. It is the pearl of the world and he is very astounded to have found this. He is thinking about selling it, but also he may keep it for all we know.

Final thoughts on pearl

In the book the pearl, Kino starts out as loving his wife and child, until he finds the pearl. After he finds the pearl he starts to lose sanity and starts to think that the pearl is a "gift from god." His wife starts to think that this pearl is tearing their family apart. although i did think this book was very interesting and exciting. there were many adventures and every chapter had something new to it and as i read i couldn't stop thinking "what would happen next to Kino and Juana?" The lesson to be learned in this book is to be grateful for what you have and not to love silly objects such as a pearl more than the person you love and want to be with.
In chapter three of the pearl, Kino is a pearler (his job) and searches for pearls. He finds a very large unusual pearl that is apparently the pearl of the world. He seems to car more about the pearl than his wife Juana now that he has found the pearl of the world. The news about Kino finding the pearl of the world is now spread throughout the town. everyone knows he has the pearl so he has to watch his back for burglers or people wanting to kill him and take his pearl away from him and sell it for money. the priest here's about this and thinks to himself that might he have baptized their baby or married Kino and Juana? Then a doctor here's about this and starts to think about a plan to steal the pearl from them. Since in chapter one he made there baby sick he tries to offer to cure him for the pearl.
